Lastpass One Password

LastPass now offers the ability to create a time-based one-time passcode (TOTP) in the LastPass vault for Enterprise and Identity users. Time-based one-time passcodes (TOTP) are a form of two-factor authentication (2FA) that add additional security for each login. When a user is logging into a website or application, a TOTP requests that the user provides a verification code to ensure that the individual requesting to login is who they say they are.

I have tested LastPass and 1Password but what I'm seeing that the team member can not see a password under the password manager dashboard but when they login to a website using those (shared) details and if the website has the option 'show password' at that page then boom they'll be able to see my password. If your Master Password for LastPass is ever lost or forgotten, there are several account recovery methods to use to restore access to your Vault. If the recovery options below do not allow you to recover your Master Password, you will need to reset your LastPass account (to keep the same username) or create a brand new LastPass.

TOTP differentiate from the LastPass Authenticator or LastPass MFA application as it is only for Vault site entries as opposed to externally saved sites or applications.

With TOTP, users can secure websites and applications with two-factor authentication to prevent data breaches. LastPass will store the TOTP next to the password of a site to provide simple access to protected sites.

In addition, for shared sites that require two-factor authentication, LastPass offers the ability to share TOTP in order to allow users to access the same site (using the same site credentials) without disabling a secondary form of authentication. This will simplify access for team passwords, such as social media accounts, IT administrator credentials, or shared portal logins.

Admins will have the ability to turn this feature on for their end-users through a new policy, called ‘Don’t show TOTP in vault’. When this policy is enabled, end-users will not be able to see the TOTP option in their LastPass vault.

Like all LastPass vault records, the codes are encrypted, backed up and securely synced to all your devices.

Lastpass vs one password

Use Temporary (One-Time) Passwords

LastPass provides you with the ability to generate one-time passwords (OTPs) in which each password will only work for one login session. This means that even if someone else gets access to a previously used OTP, they will not be able to use it to log on to your LastPass account.

About one-time passwords

One-time passwords (OTPs) can be used if you want to access LastPass from a public computer and do not want to enter your Master Password because someone else may be able to access it (using a keylogger to capture your typed keys or other malware). They are also handy if you need to access your LastPass Vault but you do not know what kind of security is implemented on the computer you are going to use.

A one-time password is something you generate after you have logged in to your account, and is something you can write down. Please be aware that one-time passwords are not sent via email or Customer Care, they are generated directly by you.

To use the one-time passwords, you generate a list of temporary passwords ahead of time, and cross them off (if they are printed or stored elsewhere) as they are used each time you log in to your account. You can also invalidate OTPs if you are concerned that they have become compromised. Please note that you can only log in with a one-time password from the one-time password login page at https://lastpass.com/otp.php.

CAUTION: Changing or resetting your Master Password will invalidate all one-time passwords that you generated before the change occurred (as it requires your Vault to be re-encrypted). This means that you will need to generate new OTPs after a Master Password change, as all OTPs you generated previously will no longer be listed.
